  • We're The Millers is a road trip comedy that actually has great onscreen chemistry. If a comedy makes me laugh, it succeeds (I hardly laugh, I'm emotionless). I laughed twice, so it definitely succeeds. But what made this film work was the chemistry, every actor felt like the right choice. Sudeikis is charismatic, Aniston is sexy, Roberts is full of teenage angst and Poulter was just full on awkward. Each actor portrayed their designated stereotype perfectly and really made the "family" dynamic work. The plot is pretty simple, pretend to be a family in order to smuggle some drugs from Mexico. Again, comedies like these don't focus on the plot that much and instead put all the effort into skits and situations that should make us laugh. The problem with this film, is that it felt too long. There were too many pointless scenes just to try and make us laugh, it didn't work for me. The first act is quick, so quick that they are actually back in America with the drugs by the end of it. That's when it slowly starts to lose steam. I thought the script was pretty good, several jokes fell flat but on the whole made me smile or actually laugh. Maybe used crudeness rather than wit abit too frequently, but I guess that's what the film was aiming for...not entirely my cup of tea shall we say. The drawing game scene definitely cracked me up, heck even some scenes made me cringe...you know what I'm talking about...a certain "making out" scene with said "family" members. The direction was standard, everything felt clean and perhaps abit too clinical. No wait, safe would be the word to use. Is it the best comedy ever? Absolutely not. But is it the worst? No where near. Definitely check this out if you want a good laugh with friends!
