  • A Most Violent Year just oozes sophistication. Ooooh just every camera shot is precise and technically excellent, J.C. Chandor is proving to be quite the director. This film is all about a family and their business, which happens to be hitting some legal issues just as they are about to expand. This is a very mature drama (with a hint of thriller) and the understated performances from Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain, they just blew me away. None of the Oscar bait kind of acting, this is pure excellence. The characters were well developed and it was great to see the main character's motive for his business to succeed. A few pacing issues here and there and wanted some more Chastain but overall this is a solid drama that kind of has the essence of The Godfather.
