  • Criminal was ravaged by critics. In fact, needless to say it didn't fare well at all so I was extremely apprehensive and filled with low expectations. This film is alright, it's fine. It's not terrible, but it's not great. Acting was serviceable as expected, Costner and Oldman were standouts though. Nice clean camerawork and editing when it came to the action scenes and I quite like the musical score. The biggest problem with the film is that it doesn't know what it wants to be. Action? Thriller? Crime? Drama? Heck, even Sci-Fi? The answer is that it has all of them. But the screenplay jumps around each genre and it just doesn't work. It needed more focus, a much tighter plot. Another major gripe, our main "hero" is not likeable whatsoever. I know that's the point, but when he is taking on bad guys I literally didn't care if anything happened to him. There was no emotional connection. So sadly, whilst this film is fine and watchable, it's nothing memorable.
