  • This movie was actually a lot better than I thought it would be- my assumption was that it was just a romantic comedy with Katniss, the guy from the Hangover and Robert De Niro, but I was obviously very wrong. This movie follows Pat, a man with undiagnosed Bipolar disorder who ends up attacking his wife's.... male form of mistress? I'm blanking right now. Either way he finds them cheating and he's placed in a mental hospital for eight months, before returning home to Philadelphia where he is to live with his family. Pat is estranged from his wife who has a restraining order against him, but he's still determined that they are a happily married couple that can work through their problems despite not seeing each other at all. While eating dinner at his old friends house, he is introduced to a woman named Tiffany, his friend's wife's sister who's husband recently died. Tiffany also has several non clarified mental illnesses, and although their first meeting is a bit uncomfortable, they eventually form a friendship that helps both heal from their past trauma, and may even lead to something more. There are some really strong performances all around, and the concept and situations were pretty realistic and raw. Usually I get just a little bit annoyed by J Law but she was really strong in this film. I didn't mind the frequent yelling because the script was so good, and I feel like there was a perfect balance of highs and lows throughout this film. In fact, my only complaint was that the last 15 minutes went too quickly because there was a ton of build up, and then it just went super fast through all of the conclusion. Otherwise this is a really terrific movie about relationships, second chances, and yes, silver linings. A wonderful, genuine film worth a watch.
