  • The Help is a hearty drama about racial segregation, a common theme for films particular those near Awards seasons. What makes this one different is that it's more watchable for families and is an easier watch for its calmer depiction on racism, which in turn makes it more accessible for the average moviegoer. Although still profound and emotive, the message does become blurred at times. The acting is spot on though, Viola Davis and Emma Stone always deliver but it's actually Jessica Chastain (who is a personal favourite of mine) that owns every scene. The characters they play share both serious and more humorous moments, and that's due to the light hearted script. I loved the setting and the hair and makeup was definitely on point. The biggest problem is that the message isn't always clear, the melodrama between the characters deviate from the actual point of the film. It's long runtime for me just wasn't necessary, definitely could've been more concise...I shall admit, it took me a while to get into it. Thankfully the dependable cast, great script and solid direction means that the emotion and warmth is conveyed powerfully. T'was a good watch.
