Evil robots, ani-mazing animation and family drama collide in a rainbow of colour in the hilarious The Mitchells vs. The Machines. The cast is impressive, notably bagging Olivia Colman as a voice role for evil Alexa, and the script is consistently hilarious and full of joy. Many of the jokes not only make you laugh but make you feel genuinely happy. I'm mainly referring to the Furby horde. 'Let the dark harvest begin.' may be my favourite line ever now.

Aside from the zany animation, which blends stop motion, hand-drawn, sockpuppetry, and CGI, there is a heartwarming story of a fractured family, mainly between father and daughter. By blending together a unique visual flair with some scenes which will flick the on switch in the tear duct department elevates The Mitchells vs. The Machines to Pixar levels of animation. Of course, there are similarities to The Incredibles but only so far as the family drama. T.M.v.T.M. also comments on tech companies and the role of technology within the home. Plus it's extremely funny. This isn't surprising since it came from the team behind The Lego Movie.
