In Ancient Polynesia, when a terrible curse incurred by Maui reaches an impetuous Chieftain's daughter's island, she answers the Ocean's call to seek out the demigod to set things right.
Today's movie was Moana, which I wanted to see, but so many people were going to it at my theatre that I had to wait till now, and I really enjoyed it for what it was. Just to start off somewhere, the original music is some of the best in a film all year, it's like what I wish trolls did. It was catchy, definitely powerful at moments, and then there was the rock sing talking, which could have been so much worse then it was. The voice work is great, from the newcomer Auli'i Cravalho, to the rock, who is always a fun time. The animation is absolutely stunning especially what they did with the water. This top shelf quality animation gives us some amazing shots, like this one scene right before the climax. The story was very ingaging, and I really likedikrd how it played out, even if it did follow the Disney formula. The characters, Including Moana, are Great characters, and we're relatable and lovable. One little thing I also loved how self aware this movie was of all the Disney clichés, and made fun of them while still following that formula. I do have one huge problem with this movie, the character of Maui is basically useless. This movie would be almost the same, just shorter, if this character didn't exist. His only importance is so there can be a legend do Moana can go on this adventure, besides that, the ending renders this character pointless. I also think that when someone starts singing in this movie, it can sometimes jarring, which is a problem I usually don't have with Disney films. Also, why did there have to be a reference to frozen? Why? Overall, Moana is one of the better animated movies of the year, and is definitely worth checking out, just for the fact that this movie has a diverse cast, and is a great movie at the same time.
