loosely based on true events, something Clint Eastwood seems to like going for when directing. This film surprised me.
Not only because Eastwood is stepping into a leading role for the first time in a good few years but also because his skill has not diminished even slightly. Eastwood gives a genuinely heartfelt, dramatic performance that really pushes you to stick with his character despite him making some questionable life choices that ultimately come between him and his family. Family should be the most important thing to most people in this world and Eastwood delivers that message in a very slow, dark and almost tragic way. By no means his best feature but all in all a very grey, dramatic and well directed film from a man who is quite literally a cinematic legend
