  • WHAT I LIKED: 'Ballerina,' is exactly what you'd expect from a John Wick universe movie. Viscerally filmed and choreographed action set-pieces which will have you on the edge of your seat. Some tantalizing world-building about a land of assasins with codes and rules. And lots of stylish locations, gadgetry, and cinematography.

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: Again like all John Wick movies, it's hardly a film with the most substance. This time the central character is a female assassin (played by Ana de Armas) who is trained for contact kills in a twisted ballet school, and her breaking out on her own and discovering personal links to one of her missions is vaguely interesting. But overall there's not much depth to her arc, or, frustratingly, the development of the world-building.

VERDICT: 'Ballerina,' is your typical John Wick movie; tense, stylish and intriguing, but it never really scratches the surface of its interesting ideas.
