9 is a film which you watch as a child and then find yourself lacking in the sleep department for some weeks. The real treat comes when researching years later and being horrified all over again.

9 is a unique vision of a scientific dystopia. Subtle word building and an overall strength in visual storytelling drives this film with gusto. Every gear, cog and rusty beam are filled with answers. But don't dare look to close for danger and horrors lurk within.

9 could, and I think should, have been a silent film. For, what let's it done for me is the script. It's clearly limited by it's short running time, knocking through set up and pay off as fast as a vampire in a blood bank. It becomes so minimal you begin to wonder whether it's necessary.

9 is beautifully bleak and a true horror, brimming with cruel intrigue. It resonates above those aside it on the Netflix conveyer belt, challenging audiences to watch it.
