Despite being made in 1975, Jaws remains eternally terrifying, tapping into a natural human fear. Whether that be of the ocean, teeth or the shark itself, Jaws becomes more than a B-movie concept, growing to become one of Spielberg's greatest movies.

Because I hadn't seen Jaws for so long I was worried that my expectations were too high. I'd heard that the rubber shark prop expelled any sense of fear, that it was simply unscary. Yet, when watching, I became quickly aware that my expectations were adequate, more so.

A combination of a brooding score by John Williams, masterful direction by Spielberg and an immensely sharp and witty script makes Jaws an instant popcorn-munching classic. Spielberg knows how to create an entertaining film and here is one with boatloads of it.

There is definitely something to be explored in Jaws. The politics, the 'islander identity', an inherent fear of the sea or its expansive selection of sequels and spin-offs all provide fascinating conversation starters. But, at its best, Jaws is the perfect film experience. Entertaining, tense, dazzling, funny and much more, Jaws practically gives off the smell of popcorn and sweaty teenage cinema employees.
