When First Class first came out, a lot of people saw it as a desperate attempt to keep the X Men franchise relevant. However this film surprises and excites in its character building of the early X-Men. James Mcavoy and Michael Fassbender are superb; showing audiences the depth, and differences that the young professor X and Magneto have as they brilliantly play off each other. The other X men in this film are great led by Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique/Raven; who builds an interesting, and albeit confusing bond(if you've seen the original X-Men trilogy) between herself and professor X. Kevin Bacon does a good job as Sebastian Shaw. A character who is the basis of the Magneto's character arc in the film. The end of the film is great as it fuses with the backdrop of the Cold War turmoil to create a superb last 45 minutes for this film. There are very few problems for me in this film. Perhaps the dialogue could've been better at times;along with continuity problems, but that's all I've got. Overall I see X-Men: First Class is a great team building movie which pulls on the nostalgia strings of the original films; in a great exploration of the younger versions of iconic characters.
