    From ancient texts to contemporary dramas, stories that test people’s faith in ideals are as old as time. Often, as in The Exorcist or Silence, that comes from showing characters unimaginable horrors to test their religious beliefs, and Scott Beck and Bryan Woods’ Heretic is the latest film to join that club....
