  • WHAT I LIKED: One of the best modern movies in its genre, 'Inside Man,' is an intelligent and gripping thriller with a little to say about the world which makes for a thoroughly underrated gem of a film that anyone should watch. Yes first and foremost, this thing is an extremely engaging mystery, and that's partly down to its genius plot and the way it unravels in directions you don't expect, but also the manor in which it's told as SpikeLee's magnetic pace and ability to keep you on the edge of your seat is second to none. But what arguably elevates this even further is the film's social messages, as there are moments when it hits some themes right on the heads of their nails in brilliant ways that will bring about as much of a knowing smile as the brilliant ending does. All in all then, this is a smart and properly enjoyable film that grips you from start to finish and will have you constantly wincing and rejoicing in its brilliant subversion of expectations and its relevant social points.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: It's hardly some touching character piece or thematic masterpiece, but what it does, it does very well indeed.
VERDICT: A gripping and socially relevant thriller with a smart plot and enging direction, 'Inside Man,' is an underrated gem that everyone should see.
