  • WHAT I LIKED: With its story of a robot who crash-lands in a jungle and ends up rearing the runt of a litter of geese, Chris Sanders' 'The Wild Robot,' is basically a big allegory for parenthood.

Initially - albeit with the help of a fox - the robot feeds the chick and teaches it to swim and to fly, but eventually, she also forms an emotional connection with it. That makes it rather sad that her task is ultimately to rear it well enough such that it can eventually fly the nest, but when that day inevitably does come, she experiences a mix of grief and pride.

This journey - of fun, struggle, reliance and then separation - is one that any parent or child will recognise, and it's hard not to let it pull on your heartstrings. And that's only emphasised by the fact its characters are so engaging and well-observed, and the fact it's animated so beautifully.

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: The film moves at a heck of a pace, but there are times when you can't help but think that a more carefully written scene would have been more emotionally rewarding than another montage.

VERDICT: Chris Sanders' 'The Wild Robot,' is a lovely, heart-warming allegory for parenthood.
