  Once upon a time in the Midlands is an uplifting family story set in the grey, dank Midlands where there seems to be no escape. Although the story itself is enjoyable, the film seems to miss an opportunity for some real BBC mockumentary style laughs.
  
  I was waiting for some The Office style awkwardness or perhaps even some Hot Fuzz winks at the camera. While this was never delivered, I enjoyed the heartfelt redemption story of Dek more than I thought I would. Nevertheless, a bond between melancholy and humour which could've been so strong never came about making for a missed opportunity.
