Stanley's family is cursed with bad luck. Unfairly sentenced to months of detention at Camp Green Lake, he and his campmates are forced by the warden to dig holes in order to build character. What...
Have you ever seen a movie that was underwhelming compared to the book? Of course you have. Take the Percy Jackson series as an example. These films did not really live up to my expectations, as they were a bit boring and the cinematography was not very impressive. The screenplay was not as well-developed as the book, and the way it unfolded, for its target audience, was not well told. I think the audience they were aiming for would not be interested in something like this. Although the way the actors approached their roles were amazing, and their portrayal of them marvelous, when the story was adapted for the film, it lost all charm and complexity, because the backstories of the key characters were too rushed
I would not recommend this movie to a friend because I do not think, in most ways, that this film was interesting, The film made me feel indifferent to the death of a character that I had felt a personal connection to when reading the novel. The special effects were not good, as half of the people I was watching with called out any of the CGI or disguised animals, like the yellow spotted lizards. The cinematography was good, but overall the cons outweigh the pros with regard to this film.
The sets, props, and costumes were sub-par but I think that the filmmakers can do much better, even considering that it was produced fifteen years ago. The sets were not what I was expecting, as I thought it would not be so barren before the lake dried, I imagined that the town of Green Lake would be green, and the land around it would be less desolated.
I do not think I would watch this movie again, because it had no charm or intricacy. Overall, the movie was not nearly as good as I thought it would be. Although it was not as bad as the Percy Jackson movies, the intricacy of the movie is not good compared to the book. The book made me care about every single specific detail of the characters, while the movie glossed over them, and I got confused so many times about what character is which, If I had not read the book I wouldn’t understand a single thing that was happening.
All in all, the movie is worse than the book. I would not recommend this film to anyone, as I do not think that it is as good as it could be in any way, and would not rewatch it. Instead, I suggest enjoying the novel.
