  • WHAT I LIKED: Brad Bird's 'Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol,' is regarded by many as the film where this franchise entered its prime, and whilst I think JJ Abrams' third installment is still a far superior picture, it's hard to disagree that Mission: Impossible found a new niche here as the series became all about sheer fun-factor as the mission takes centre stage again. Yes this installment largely forgets the serious character development of its predecessor and instead draws most of its focus to the action set-pieces and giving its audience a rollercoaster joy-ride that crucially doesn't ask you to take anything too seriously with its snappy humour and ridiculous plot. That shouldn't be mistaken however for meaning it's just fluffy and weightless, as you're only invested because on the one hand the action itself looks and feels tangible, and also because of a great central cast who all build characters you can root for with very little actual development. All in all that means it's an exceedingly enjoyable summer blockbuster that will keep you relatively hooked but equally not taking the crazy stunts and plot all that seriously.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: It's certainly no more of a film than what it's trying to be.
VERDICT: Mission: Impossible becomes all about the fun, and with buckets of tangible action and engaging performances, 'Ghost Protocol,' will undoubtedly slap a big smile on your face from start to finish.
