  • WHAT I LIKED: There is undoubtedly some stuff to like in the new 'Tomb Raider,' - Alicia Vikander delivers a great performance that hooks you in, and director Roar Uthaug engineers some pretty visceral action sequences, and in the end you certainly don't have the worst video game movie out there.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: The issue with it is though that the plot is full of expositional mumbo-jumbo and effectively has little-to-no thematic or character significance at all. That may not be a problem for those looking for a weightless action movie to while away a couple of hours too, but it certainly makes large parts of the film a bit of a durge to sit through.
VERDICT: Alicia Vikander's performance will probably enough to keep you engaged, and there are some decent action sequences here, but overall the new 'Tomb Raider,' is a pretty crumby action film that you could easily do a lot better than if you're looking for some weightless fun to while away an afternoon.
