I had serious hope that this would be the good video game movie, but after the first twenty minutes, I foreshadowed a super fucking insane twist/reveal that was so odvious that I bet most of the people in my showing (most of them liked it by the way,) could see coming from a mile away. Yeah, this isn't the Savior of video game movies, but it's at least one of the higher tier films in the ganre. Let me start off with positives. It seemed like Michael Fassbender, Jeremy Irons, and whoever was playing that female assassin in Spain gave us pretty good proformances. I also found most of the stuff that happened in fifteen Century Spain to be pretty interesting. This was something really small, but something that I really appreciated. When in Spain, the characters speak in Spanish, not in English, which sells some sort of authenticity in an Assassin's Creed movie. The color pallet for each of the times is very distinct, which it is also pulled off well thanks to good cinimotography and pretty good set design. Now onto my cons with the film. First off, Marion Cotillard's proformance was just this monotoned voice. It sounded like she was so bored on set and just decided to phone it in. The plot of this film sounds insane when you think about it, which makes the twist/reveal even more insane. The story also didn't really stay on track, as it originally wanted to tell the story that's in the plot synopsis, and stay in the past, but those scenes in the past are few and far between. The story instead mostly stays in the present day, and follows this super generic, bland, boring storyline and creates this villan and all that shit. And the action sequences, oh the action sequences. Whenever there is an action sequence that takes place in the past, they keep cutting between the past and the preasent, which makes it a hard sequence to really understand. Add some Shakey cam and a lot of quick cuts and that's the perfect combination for a shitty action sequence. Overall, I think Assassin's Creed is one of the better video game adaptations, but it's still not a good movie in any way, shape, or form.
