  • WHAT I LIKED: 'Encino Man,' is a high-concept comedy with a great central idea. A caveman (Brendan Fraiser) wakes up after being frozen in ice and meets and befriends two high-school nerds (Pauly Shore and Dave Morgan). He's a complete fish out of water which makes for some amusing moments, and he also miraculously helps the two friends gain confidence and popularity - an inevitable arc which adds a level of surface engagement.

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: The script isn't witty or clever enough to make it truly laugh out loud funny or genuinely engaging, and Pauly Shore is extremely annoying at all times.

VERDICT: A great comedy concept executed averagely, 'Encino Man,' is a fine thing to enjoy, but it's not going to ruffle too many of the senses.
