Vietnam veteran "Four Leaf" Tayback's memoir, Tropic Thunder, is being made into a film. Director Damien Cockburn can’t control the cast of prima donnas. Behind schedule and over budget, Cockburn...
Ahahhhhahaha- a surprisingly job well done by Stiller. But seriously- this movie is on drugs. In a good way. This film follows several extremely caricatured Hollywood actors creating a movie based off the story that a war veteran wrote, supposedly a real life account of his adventure in Vietnam. However, they are "a month behind, only 5 days in shooting" and the rookie director is advised by the tough and gruff author of the book to send his actors into the actual wilderness, with only tree installed cameras and a walkie talkie for communication. However, due to a misplaced mine the director (spoilers) is blown to smithereens, and madness ensues. Eventually we discover that the "biopic" did not happen one bit, but they're now stuck in the wilderness on the ride of their lives. (Yeesh, I told ya it was on drugs.) First we have our washed up action hero, Tugg, (Ben Stiller), who is trying one last shot at a serious acting gig before probably being placed on the Hollywood hate list, as well as a Daniel Day Lewis or Jared Leto type 5 time Academy award winner so into his role he undergoes a chemical altering of his skin to appear black (they make fun of this plenty of times, do not worry), a drug sniffing, whiny "comedian", if I dare call it that who's movie appearances include playing all the members of a family called, "The Fatties", and a slew of other very eccentric characters. My personal favorite was Jay Baruchel, whom I've always had a soft spot for, and is severely out of place. With an extraordinary comedian cast of Robert Downey Jr., Brandon T. Jackson, Jack Black (not my favorite, but convincing as a drug addict), Matthew McConnaghey, Bill Hader, and most iconically Tom Cruise as the angry, egotistical Les Grossman, this is a movie that you are not going to forget any time soon. The plot and setting may be a bit controversial at times, but it pokes enough fun at itself to really create a crazy yet entertaining narrative. If you like slightly insane, foul mouthed movies that are a heck of a wild ride, this is the movie for you.
