Pulling at your heartstrings like tuning the strings of a violin, “Abominable”, directed by Jill Culton, is a warm and fuzzy family adventure that makes up for its predictably forgettable narrative with a heartwarming message and its beautifully rendered animation.

After discovering a yeti on the roof of her apartment building, a young teenage girl and her two friends must embark on a journey to reunite the mythical creature with his family and keep him away from the hands of a greedy financier that wants to exploit the creature for his own gain.

With a colorfully fun cast of characters, the film is told with just enough charm to have you glued to your seat till the credits roll and vividly lush animation that not only respects China’s signature landmarks, but brings pure joy and wonder with every magical element that leaps on screen. While it appears like every other film in the market with its familiar narrative beats and safe approach, the film includes heartening character development for its entire cast and a slew of sweet lessons that should resonate with even the youngest audience members. Some of those lessons include the power of friendship, family, and self-respect. Also include, and most notably, is one incredibly cute magical yeti that incites both warm and squishy sentiments while also potentially being a merchandising front-runner in the future.

“Abominable” may be a predictable story, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a journey worth taking. With lovely animation and its sensitivity towards family values, the film is a nice family feature that has its heart in the right place as not only will it entertain, but teach you about connecting with your loved ones, which has no geographical boundaries.0 member like this review.
