Venom! Before I start I've never read or watched any previous background of Venom. I know of the character and how he looks but that's it. I only review the film! ☺
So which camp am I with for this film, the critics or the audience.. Well.. I'm with the audience on this one. Venom is a fun and entertaining character and with Tom Hardy's skill as a varied actor, you are in for a good time. The film has a sort of Jekyll and Hyde approach and thankfully Venom is full of personality and an interesting character. Same with Eddie Brock who is basically an anybody and down on his luck until the two combine.
Even if it's a PG-13 it's still a pretty dark film! Alot of well choreographed and animated fighting scenes and a few heads being eaten ????
It's a typical marvel film though with the villain being the mirror of the "hero" but atleast this time I didn't think about that aspect until writing this review. Riz Ahmed as Carlton Drake was very intriging whose character is one who goes one step to far to then believing its ok and then getting too secure with his power.
The music is pretty standard but it is well Orchestrated and does help you get more involved with the action/chase scenes.
It's hard to find a fact about the film that i don't like, the one reviewer who I watch all the time - Mark Kemode, who I fully respect as a Film Critic has said that it is a silly but fun film.. That's true but the fact that it's silly improves it even more for me. It's a story about a hungry' parasite who can talk and has a long waggling tongue. Don't over think about this film. Enjoy it for what it is and get involved. I like to escape in a film and the Jekyll and Hyde Quality that Eddie and Venom bring to the film is superior entertainment.
Michelle Williams was also an enjoyable love interest for Eddie and Venom for that matter ???? it's great to see her making more appearances and to see her temptation to the lure of venom.
It's a great addition to the marvel franchise (I know it's not part of the MCU... Yet) well done sony and Ruben Fleischer and Tom Hardy. I am excited for the sequel as this film deserves one. I was sad that the film was over and I only felt like that once this year, which was after watching 'A Quiet Place'.
I do hope the sequel will be R-Rated that's all they need to change and maybe the action scenes will be more interesting and same with the script!
