In the final chapter of the greatest trilogy of all time, Peter Jackson manages to craft quite possibly one of the greatest films of all time, and the DEFINITION of a cinematic achievement. The Return of the King in both theatrical and extended cuts is never boring, but constantly engaging, always involving the audience in what the going-ons are leading up to the the climactic end of the 11 hour journey. In my humble opinion, the battle of Pelennor Fields is the single greatest action sequence of all time, as Peter Jacksons acute sense of detail, and his perennially omniscient knowledge of where to place everything at specific times, is duly at work for the entire run-time. The end of this film is one where you find yourself crying tears distress, because you felt as if you have finished your journey with these characters that you now love. The Return of the King throws all the masterful aspects of filmmaking into a bucket, and swims wholly in it, basking in its so rightfully deserved brilliance.
