  • I'll admit it- I was kind of dreading this film at first, because it was my first movie after a several day break. Plus, I heard it was the lesser Nolan film as his debut feature length. Why did I believe any of that? This movie is awesome! It's description from several websites totally misled me, and what I thought I was going to see was in fact not what I was watching at all. If you want a description, it's about a young man, because I would suggest going into this movie with as few spoilers as possible. Although short compared to other films these days, Following has more substance and genius than any standard thriller today. The plot twists were incredibly clever and hard hitting, and although I know it's not the best comparison, SO much better than Shutter Island. The decision to use black and white film was inspired, although potentially required, as Nolan was paying out of his own salary to write, direct, shoot, and photograph this whole movie. If you are one of those people who thinks Nolan is overrated and only gifted with his large flow of cash and stylish embellishment, please watch Following again. A couple film sequences weren't quite as smooth as they could've been and there was the occasional loss of flow within shots, as well as a tonal confusion with lack of music, but, again, for a debut there's a lot to be admired here. I'm very sorry about the vague description for those who haven't seen it- but I strongly insist that you go watch this 70 minute film on Netflix right now- it's worth your time. Cobb is a stud. Thank God for Nolan. I just have to watch Insomnia and the Dark Knight Rises and I'll be able to rank his filmography. Anyways, fantastic film.
