  • WHAT I LIKED: What's definitely most notable about 'Spider-Man Into The Spiderverse,' is the standard of the animation, as the world built here has a beautiful atmosphere and tangibility to it balanced perfectly with a sense of comic-book dynamism that flies off the screen and hooks you in. All of that gives the film a sense of place and energy that very few blockbusters have, but that's not the limits of the film's greatness either as it also keeps you there with a fresh and engaging character arc with the chirpy and vulnerable teen Miles Morales whose life unlocks some neat commentaries on the realities of being a young person in a big city as well as all the usual Spider-Man stuff about the responsibilities that come with great power. Overall then it is a very engaging and beautifully-animated blockbuster for all ages to enjoy, and it definitely lives up to the hype to some degree.

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: The story involving the introduction of those other characters is rather weak, and once they're on screen you can't help but wish they weren't there detracting from the time we could be spending with Morales himself. Also it's not nearly as funny as it seems to think it is, but it is important to note that those most attached to the source material will be the ones who'll really get all that stuff...

VERDICT: Whilst not without its flaws, 'Into the Spider-verse,' is an engaging and beautifully-animated blockbuster with a lot of great stuff up its sleeve. Here's hoping we see more from this animated universe - there are clearly lots of stories to tell.
