  • Birds of Prey is as irreverent as it is entertaining, and with a screen grabbing performance like the one Margot Robbie gives, the DC universe finally has a tonally consistent vessel for this iconic character to reach her true heights. The supporting cast however, flounders considerably. Despite Mary Elizabeth Winstead (who is simply a gem) the acting is weak, and none of them deliver their dialogue convincingly, especially the moments meant to be more poignant or dramatic. The screenplay however, either works really well or is very sketchy; as a result, we're often left to wonder if this script is genius and rather its the performers who are lackluster. Whichever it is, the script's zaniness often works in its favor, but sometimes - perhaps some of the heart and essence of the film is lost in trying to do the "female deadpool" shtick.
