When Natural First Killers starts off, you get the sense you've walked into the wrong screening. This isn't the film you wanted! Why is everything at a Dutch angle? Stop cutting for Christ sake and show me a shot from an actual movie! But, if one chooses to endure, you'll find a grizzly portrait of a psychopathic society; a society of natural born killers. Sure, it's very Tarantino. Despite only writing it, his flavour sticks to the tongue like gum on a desk. It's also extremely messy with an ungodly amount of cut aways to what seems like nothing, not to mention the seemingly pointless changes between colour and black and white. But under that difficult to penetrate judgement there is a smart exploration of a rotting America, a country born off of natural born killers. It's grotesque, it's horrific and it undoubtedly glorifies violence. But there is no doubt a nugget of something to mine out of this mess. And what a shiny nugget it is.
