What isn't there to love in this. My only fault is that it's a mere three parts long. I could do with at least 8!

In this documentary, we see Martin Scorsese tell of the films that made him, up to the late sixties. From the silent movies of D.W. Griffith to Leone's westerns, Scorsese's journey through cinema is full of passion and heart. You can literally hear his joy in much of his narration.

While watching I was avidly making a list of films to watch. While mentioning a couple of well-known films, (Kubrick's 2001 is featured prominently) Scorsese focuses on lesser-known films, embracing B-movies and low budget flicks from the past.

This documentary is a portrait of a real cinephile. Scorsese lovingly recounts some of the films that made him, never forcing them upon the viewer but simply recounting their brilliance with the utmost respect, only gaining himself even more of it.
