"The Rebellion is reborn today, the war is just beginning, and I will not be The Last Jedi." I've held off from fully reviewing this movie just because I have so much to say, and at the time of this film's release I was probably much too enraged at the amounts of people crapping all over this film; however now, in a much calmer state, I think its high time I review one of the BEST films of 2017, and in the top half of Star Wars films. The Last Jedi's main policy is innovation, not invention, or re-branding. Innovation seeks to add on to what we have already built up, and make our existing world a better place; I believe firmly that this was Rian Johnson's motto with this film. The themes of discovering yourself, PURPOSE, FAILURE, and LEGACY, are ever-present in this film, and I believe Rian Johnson does the best directing job in the star wars universe since George Lucas for Return of the Jedi. The true depth of the film however, comes from the writing. Rian challenges J.J's characters with the toughest truths they can uncover about their world, their cause, and most importantly themselves. Luke Skywalker's character arc across 4 films is fully realized, and the poetry that George began to pen, is finished with Rian Johnson's fitting finale to the most legendary of characters. The main action sequence in the film, is my favorite Star Wars action sequence of all time, and it will undoubtedly go down in history for some of the most visual striking imagery, paired with the most electric choreography. All in all, The Last Jedi is the whole enchilada for me, and I know others don't think so, but the film worked for me, and thankfully that's all that matters.
