  • How can a movie be extremely weird and painfully accurate at the same time? Christopher Guest definitely knows his way around this subject, with his past string of acclaimed work nothing but that. Best in Show is a mockumentary that follows several different patrons in a midwestern dog show, starring a bunch of B/C List comedy actors, like Jane Lynch (From Glee), Jennifer Coolidge (Paulette in Legally Blonde), John Michael Higgens (the male interviewer from Pitch Perfect), Catherine O Hara (the mom from Home Alone), Parker Posey, Michael McKean, etc. They make up a ream of rather eccentric characters who just want to see their dog win. You have your flashy gay couple, a married duo who just keeps running into her former boyfriends, a gold digger and her dog trainer who eventually start to develop feelings for each other, a destructive and borderline crazy future divorcees, and a simple country man who just loves his bloodhound (played by the director, of course.) If that doesn't make you want to watch the film, I don't know what will. Its funny, but it's not hilarious. The humor is dry and uncomfortable, which is perfect for this documentary environment. The characters are over the top, but in a realistic way. It's destructive, but not in a a way that you feel bad for these clawing character. I mean it's a pretty simple and quick film but I really enjoyed myself and I can't wait to see more Christopher Guest films! Watch if you can laugh at Toddlers and Tiaras.
