  • WHAT I LIKED: Like many franchise finales, 'Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part 2,' is a film that embraces everything about its series' world and its characters and indulges in all of that unapologetically for its entirety. Yes if the first part to this conclusion was a quieter character study, this one is a full-on dive into the lore as it lays bare the pure evil of Voldermort's oppression and the spark of hope in Harry Potter's close friends and allies in a brawling, brooding battle of wills. It's an emotionally engaging and gratifying pay-off for fans to see, but it only works because you already care so much about these characters and this universe, and the stakes are so high by now that it feels truly frightening. David Yates is also clearly an expert hand, so he delivers results where you'd hope and takes some successful risks in the telling of Rowling's finale, and in the end it all winds up a truly gratifying and epic end to one of the biggest and most successful franchises of all time.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: The fact it embraces everything its been building so much does mean that the magic stuff occasionally becomes a little bewildering and not overly engaging for those who aren't genuine super-fans.
VERDICT: 'Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part 2,' is a franchise finale that embraces everything its series has been so expertly building, and that makes for something truly gratifying and engaging for fans, even if it means it's not quite the very best of the bunch.
