The pleasure of this film, for me, was in its synergy with the television series. I had seen the series before watching the movie, so when I finally sat down to watch it, I was overjoyed at the similarities. I love the murky color palette and the interspersed images of various artworks. The real joy in this film is the universe and how it twists the rules. A vampire must be invited into somewhere to enter, so getting into nightclubs is notoriously difficult, blood appears to stain easily so newspapers must be laid before eating and Nosferatu himself is named Peter.
Whether the concept works as a feature film is certainly up for debate, however, because it is so much fun to watch, I would argue it isn't distracting enough to care about. Perhaps if viewed as an accompanying piece to the series, this can be overlooked.
