  • The Last Jedi was in my top 3 favourite movies of 2017, and I am no where near ashamed of saying it; because of this among other things, Knives Out was one of my most anticipated movies of 2019. Rian Johnson writes what might be the most intricate script of the year in Knives Out, a totally bonkers, freakishly entertaining murder mystery that, as you might’ve guessed it, provides some timely and cutting social commentary. The mystery is unpredictable, and is constantly unraveling, with Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc attempting to unearth this mangled mess of a murder. The true strength of the movie however is in how Johnson tackles America, in all its many flaws, lies and corrupted statutes. The racial and social subtext do not go unchecked, and only manages to make the film even more powerful and emotionally resonant.
