  • WHAT I LIKED: On the one hand, the story behind Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park sequel 'The Lost World: Jurassic Park,' is interesting as it furthers the commercialism and science vs nature themes explored in the first one by building genuine sympathy for the dinosaurs as exploited natural entities in themselves. Equally though, it's a film that takes itself less seriously overall as it seems even more concerned with the action and special effects than the last one and injects some humour to match this increased silliness.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: The problem is that it becomes more and more difficult to keep the dinosaur sympathy up as the very nature of the action means that they're viewed as terrifying beasts, and not only does that mean the story losses virtually all of its potential depth, but the action becomes even more tiring than it did in the first film - an issue that's hardly helped by a lack of effective character development this time around either.
VERDICT: A lesser sequel to Spielberg's modern blockbuster classic, 'The Lost World: Jurassic Park,' may have a good story, but sadly that gets lost in its over-abundant effects-driven action and the film quickly becomes rather tiring overall.
