  • The Big Sick is uplifting to watch, and wholly delightful as a representation of religion tearing a family apart and culture as a boundary to happily ever after.

There are no human antagonists here. The real enemies are culture, health illnesses, and most of all, the decisions that come in our main character's life. It's a proof that even the funniest beings can also be the saddest, dramatic and complex people when it comes to reality.

The stakes go higher to all of our characters. But The Big Sick does it it a very subtle and genuine way. We understand why they're here, instead of just being stereotypical romcom clichés.

The film perfectly combines all of its story elements from being a romantic comedy to a family drama. But it's a far from perfect movie. Certain scenes and jokes don't deliver. The first minutes feel a little awkward, and the ending feels elongated.
