A cruel comedy where the boundary between fantasy and reality is blurred. Robert De Niro gives a transformative performance as the childish and desperate Rupert Pupkin. Scorsese lends his subtle dark edge to this satire which leaves a bitter taste in the mouth. It is an absolute joy to watch whilst also being extremely painful. Without a doubt, this is one of Scorsese's most profound and respectful works.
