  • WHAT I LIKED: The first '21 Jump Street,' was a hilarious spoof of the very thing that it was - a buddy-cop movie - and so it's hardly surprising that the cunningly named '22 Jump Street,' is a spoof of sequels. Yes re-capturing the magic of the brilliant first movie was never going to be easy, but they try it here by becoming even more self-referential, even more sarcastically self-serious, and even more ridiculous whilst unashamedly ridiculing this very approach that many crumby sequels take. This is after all an often very amusing and rather interesting way to take things, and it most definitely opens up more opportunities for further development of this great duo.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: The thing is, in spoofing everything that's a little bit crap about sequels, you somewhat end up with a film that packs the hall-marks of everything that's a little bit crap about sequels... Indeed '22 Jump Street's over-the-top approach often falls into the traps of the very things its ridiculing, and in a way winds up a spoof of itself without the fourth wall being broken.
VERDICT: It would be hard not to make a spoof about sequels without falling into the traps you'd expect, and '22 Jump Street's albeit funny and over-the-top attempts are proof that without any Deadpool-esque blatancy, it's virtually impossible to avoid.
