While Scanners is one of Cronenberg's less ambitious stories, it is ceaselessly entertaining and evocative with Cronenberg's signature body horror taking centre stage. A Bladerunner story, Scanners walked so The Terminator could run.

While there may be a message of social equality salvaged from Scanners, its mostly a typical adventure film with Cronenberg's visual finesse. Scanners seems to be upside-down Bladerunner. Unlike the aforementioned, Scanners serves up an entertaining story whilst touching on some interesting science-fiction themes, whereas Bladerunner falls short on its story, not on its philosophy.

While it isn't quite the surreal satire Videodrome, Scanners is very entertaining and a perfect way to start one's Cronenberg journey.
