  The Shawshank Redemption is a movie about friendship, loyalty and hope. It tells the story of a man, Andy Dufresne, who is serving a double life sentence in prison for murdering his wife and her lover. Shawshank is a very tough prison and Andy is not a very tough man, at first. He has to adapt to prison life and learn how to survive behind bars. In order to do so without losing his mind, Andy meets some pretty incredible people and makes some pretty incredible relationships. Andy and his newly befriended inmates must face some pretty steep obstacles to survive. The movie is narrated by Andy’s bestfriend Red. Red is also serving a life sentence and has been in the prison for 20 years before Andy arrives. Red is an extremely wise man and his narration allows him to express the feelings of all the prisoners in Shawshank. Red and Andy both rely on each other to get through the day. The Shawshank Redemption highlights themes of hope and friendship. During one conversation with Andy’s bestfriend Red he tells him, “There’s something inside that they can’t get, they can’t touch, it’s yours. Hope.” The Shawshank Redemption is a movie that will leave you inspired. What Andy goes through would make most people fold and give up. His ability to persevere and stay mentally strong is second to none. In addition to the main themes of hope and friendship, The Shawshank Redemption does hold elements of comedy and suspense. While most of the movie moves slowly it will still keep you on the edge of your seat and constantly asking yourself what is coming next. After many years in prison, Andy holds onto his prime sense of humor and him and Red feed off of each other very well. The Shawshank Redemption is a fun, inspiring movie that is extremely well put together and will keep you entertained the entire time.
