  • An experiment of sorts, Dazed and Confused highlights the activities of several different cliques, ranging from young high-school aspirants to serious druggies and all their variants. The film rather than telling a grand and intricately woven narrative, settles for more of an exploratory, and well thought out adventure through these characters that are either growing up or showing the audience and other kids what its like to be "grown up". Richard Linklater's style is deftly at work here, and he ably directs both professionals and teenagers to give some of their best performances. Dazed and confused is not the most coherently satisfying film, but it is refreshingly innovative in its story-telling, and insightful in its exploration.
