  • WHAT I LIKED: 'Coco,' is quite frankly the most delightful and simple instant-classic that we've had from Pixar since 'Finding Nemo,' as it brings its happy, child-friendly appeal seamlessly into another brilliantly innovative and truly timeless story. Now sure it may not have the snappy complexities and originality of the likes of 'Inside Out,' or 'The Incredibles,' but what it loses there it certainly makes up for in charm as the whole thing slaps a smile on your face and will tug at your heart strings from start to finish. The former of those two appeals less comes from humour this time, but more so from the world building where the studio again pushes the limits of its animation capabilities to create an amazingly-realised world that feels tangible, beautiful and down-right exciting. The emotion then of course comes through from the characters, where each and every one has a brilliant arc of their own that not only stands out independently, but also serves film's central themes of life, death and ageing. On that note, this naturally isn't the first time this studio has delved into those realms of, but it is arguably the film where they tackle them most head-on, and thankfully they do it here with all of the grace and light-hearted-ness you'd expect whilst still delivering a perfect family film-going experience that anyone of any age can - and will - enjoy.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: Perhaps it's because the originality can somewhat be taken for granted now, but much of the humour here really doesn't land...
VERDICT: A charming, delightful and timeless story that will appeals to all ages, 'Coco,' is Pixar on form, and that's probably all that needs to be said.
