  Pitch Black in my opinion is an overlooked often forgotten low budget sci fi gem. A cool sci-fi/horror hybrid that has alot of style and suspense. Richard B Riddick is a total badass and its the role that Vin Diesel was born to play. Its so fun to watch him in this role and he just chews up each scene that he's in. A convict/murderer with a mysterious past who cant be trusted but in order to survive a planet filled with monsters the group must do just that. I love how all of the protagonists in this movie are flawed and motives aren't completely revealed until the end. This is a story of survival with cool action sequences but also a great character driven story too. You actually care about each individual character, they are fleshed out and dont feel one dimensional. There's twists and turns throughout and feels unpredictable. This movie wasnt made with a franchise in mind but this movie is so good by the end you will be wanting more and thankfully we get that with the Chronicles of Riddick. I give Pitch Black 8 out 10
