  • WHAT I LIKED: What can be said about 'The Hitman's Bodyguard' that hasn't already been said? Well other than the fact its shameless direction should probably receive a little more credit than its getting, it is indeed true that this film is a light run-of-the-mill action comedy that's only really elevated by its two leads. Yes both Samuel L Jackson and Ryan Reynolds deliver performances that are so predictable they almost appear like caricatures of themselves, which is often entertaining and does mean that they're able to build characters with a rather amusing bond that actually invest you more than you might imagine. It's really only this that keeps you hooked, and whilst that may not make this any sort of must-see film, it does at least make it a fine choice to while away a couple of hours to.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: It really is nothing hugely exciting, hilarious or emotionally intelligent, and the action isn't actually that special either...
VERDICT: Samuel L Jackson and Ryan Reynolds literally play themselves in a film that's as insignificant as it is entertaining. 'The Hitman's Bodyguard' could have been a whole lot worse, but it could have certainly been better.
