Though this incarnation of the caped crusader treads familiar thematic ground, it has both the style and the substance of a neo-noir crime movie. That makes it a smart and fresh cinematic take on this world and its characters which arguably achieves the unthinkable in giving Christopher Nolan a run for his money.
