  • X2: X-men united greatly expanded on the first X-men outing - bringing in a darker tone, more serious themes, and more visceral action. The great things about this movie are the character development (from both the good and bad side) the groundbreaking action, and the undoubtedly intriguing story. Learning how wolverine got his powers is a staple for every comic book fan, but explaining it to a large demographic rife with non-comic book lovers can be a hard task; fortunately, Bryan Singer does it with ease, and grounds this movie with a certain sense of realism that ultimately pays off for it. William Stryker is an intimidating and curious villain, as his character's motivations are well justified and not entirely "incorrect". Through this, the movie blurs the line between good and evil, and shows us the neutral side of things, making us wonder which extreme is worse, Magneto's or Stryker's? From a certain point of view, each of them have merit, and this movie shows that, and is not afraid to take risks, whether it be through action, plot twists, or storytelling.
