I was skeptical about this one going in, even know I loved Drive, but thought Refn's last film, only God forgives, was only just good. I would love to welcome Nickolas Winding Refn back to great filmmaking. This movie is fantastic! I'll start off by talking about the proformances, which were incredible, the standouts being Elle Fanning and Jenna Malone. They were very authentic and at time haunting. I also loved the visual style of the film. The movie had a bunch of neon colors, and it felt completely natural. Nerve wishes it looked this good. I also think that the mix of visual storytelling and script was great. It was a great mix of figuring it out and substance from the script. This movie also bulit a shit ton of suspense. At some times I looked away from the TV, anticipating what was going to happen. The pacing was also suprisingly good, as I didn't really find a dull moment in the film. I do have one con, and it's the same one with every Refn film, sometimes, the film is overly violent, and it can be hard to watch. Overall, I loved the neon demon and think it's one of the best films of the year.
