  • I really wanted to dislike this film. I wanted to roast on it and complain that it's overrated, that it hasn't held the test of time, that whoever likes this film is a looney. But Ocean's Eleven is so ridiculously suave and entertaining that it's impossible to really hate this film. The movie follows Danny Ocean (George Clooney) who has just gotten out of jail on a heist charge, and within one day of his parole he is already bored and planning his next great big gamble: a casino robbery. You can already expect what comes next: he assembles a team of intelligent and capable individuals who possess the skills he requires to pull off the biggest casino heist of all time. This includes none other than an all star cast of Brad Pitt, Don Cheadle, Matt Damon, Casey Affleck, Elliot Gould, Bernie Mac, and the list goes on. It pains me to say it, but the pacing was perfect. It was super late at night when I was watching this and my mind did not utter "go to sleep" once because I was so engrossed in this movie and it's master plan. It might be a cliche but this one of the ultimate heist movies, and the fact that it didn't necessitate violence or crime against innocent people made it all the more enjoyable- because Benedict, (Andy Garcia), who runs the casino is a total A-hole. The plot was clever and well thought out, and just when you thought Ocean was going to sacrifice the whole plan for a girl the movie assured you it was all part of the plan. The screenplay is smart, the characters are all funny and interesting, and even if you want to punch one in the face at one point or another it doesn't last long. Shining stars? Casey Affleck and Scott Caan as the feuding brothers who take up many disguises. This movie really is good fun, and the ending is satisfying. Plus you have that gorgeous music and end shot of the fountain, which seals the deal perfectly. Artistically is this a masterpiece? No, but it's so entertaining it makes up for all of that.
