Sergio Leone’s classic is visually and emotionally gripping from start to finish. It boasts sensational directorial work from Leone and an extraordinary score from Ennio Morrricone which proudly stands along some of their best work. This film has some great performances in it, notably from the always phenomenal Robert De Niro, and a very captivating performance from James Woods. The film stylishly brings to life the prohibition era, and the lifestyle of the characters that existed because of it. The almost 4 hour running time may seem daunting, but personally I never experienced any significant issues or boredom, and personally enjoyed every minute of this film. Altogether Once Upon a Time in America is a near masterpiece which ranks amongst the best mafia films and the best Sergio Leone films. Well worth run time, and it’s definitley well worth a watch
